Kilpatrick made a bargain last year to resign as mayor, serve jail time, give up his law license, pay $1million and not seek elected office during five years of probation. He pleaded guilty to felony counts of obstruction of justice and assault on an officer in exchange for avoiding trial on charges related to the text message scandal that carried potential sentences of up to 15 years.
